This past week we have received some pretty strong rain storms.
It’s monsoon season here in the Phoenix, AZ area and flash floods can come very quickly.
The other night it was raining so hard with winds up to 80 MPH that my two older boys couldn’t even sleep.
We went back up to their rooms and played games on their devices for about an hour until the storm calmed down enough for them to go back to sleep.
It was fun at the moment, but we paid for it the next day as the lack of sleep made them quite grumpy. (but that’s another story)
What’s interesting about the monsoon season in AZ is that when we do get rains coming down that fast we end up with some dangerous flash floods, because the dirt is so hard and we don’t have a lot of thick vegetation.
The Arizona Department of Transportation has to put a whole marketing campaign together to remind people to not drive through water because a flash flood could be just around the bend.
They are a force to be reckoned with and can be very dangerous and catch you by surprise.
Financial ‘flash floods’ can come quickly as well.
Even during your retirement years.
If you don’t prepare for some of them, they can be quite destructive.
Like a massive stock market correction early on.
A health issue.
A tenant not paying rent but refusing to leave the property.
Or inflation spiking up.
It’s good to be prepared for when the financial flash floods come.
Because they always do.
It’s not IF it is WHEN.
So it’s good to have a portion of your retirement income guaranteed and a plan to increase that amount when needed.
All based on science and math.
You should be able to spend more in retirement.
Have potentially less financial stress.
And have a much lower chance of running out of money.
If you want to see mathematically how you potentially could spend more in your retirement years, have a lower chance of running out of money and possibly take a lot of the retirement dangers off the table.
