Goodness of Others

In my family we are big fans of the award winning production called “The Chosen“. In fact just this past week they started launching Season 3 by having the first 2 episodes in select theaters.
We went to watch it and it was fantastic.
A couple of years ago my family and I had the privilege of being extras in one of the episodes.
We dressed up in our period clothes and open toed sandals to be part of the filming of the “Sermon on the Mount” scene.
The only problem was the day we were filming a cold front came into Texas, and all of the extras were freezing in the 18 degree weather that day, especially with our costumes being just ragged clothing.
As I was hugging my 12-year-old son at the time he was just shivering and I felt so bad. Little did I know that as he closed his eyes for a second he said a sweet little prayer to ask that he could be warmer.
Then within 15 seconds a stranger walked up and asked my son if he wanted to borrow his coat.
We stared at each other in awe because it was a literal answer to his prayer in less than a minute’s time.
My heart was full of gratitude that someone would be that thoughtful and giving to let a stranger borrow his coat.
I like to believe that people are inherently good and want to do good. Many times we get distracted by the hustle and bustle of life.
Sometimes the weight of financial success drives decisions because in our current reality it feels like money is close to being as much of a necessity as air.
My belief is that if more people became free financially there would be even more giving and acts of kindness.
I hope during this Thanksgiving holiday weekend you enjoy your families and spread goodness.
