While he was on stage a simple slide caught the audience’s attention and I snagged a picture of it.
The slide basically summarizes the impact of inflation in retirement if the higher rates of inflation are set early on in retirement versus if inflation is higher later on in retirement.
He stressed that just like cyclical downturns we have in the market there are also cycles of increasing and decreasing rates of inflation.
Professor Finke, went on to send his empathy to the 80 million baby boomers that are near or in retirement.
He quoted, “they have had it rough!”
Not only are they experiencing a down stock market, with rising interest rates the bond market has been beat up at the same time. All the while experiencing the highest inflation rate since 1981.
I don’t think anyone wants a trophy for that. Yikes!
