How Are They Going to Gain Access

With the recent buzz in the news world about the Pentagon documents being leaked it has me thinking about security and how it is vital to your financial success.
There is the obvious need for security so nobody just pops into your accounts and sweeps away all your funds, but in addition to that setting up continuity and contingency plans are extremely necessary to your success.
When my dad passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 2016, it was my job to figure out where all his assets were and how to get them organized and set up for my mom.
One of the things that helped tremendously is he used an encrypted password manager like LastPass or 1password.
As I was trying to access the IRS site for some tax items I found his password was “thieves&robbers” or something close to that. I had a good chuckle. His password let us know how he really felt about paying good ol’ Uncle Sam.
You typically don’t think about this process because you think you will always be there to help others through.
If my dad didn’t leave his passwords organized and secure it would have taken hours to restore and reset for most of them and impossible for others.
So as you are reminded about security breaches for as long as the news plays this story out. Do yourself a favor (maybe your loved ones a favor) and get your logins and passwords organized and secure. Maybe even write a one page executive summary on where your assets are and what your current strategy is.
